The United States government disclosed on Saturday that it had delivered 9.5 million covid-19 vaccine doses to aid the mass vaccination campaign by some African countries, including Nigeria, this week.
Nigeria took delivery of 2,500, 290 additional covid-19 doses.
“This week, the United States partnered with @gavi #COVAX to deliver over 9.7 million COVID-19 vaccine doses to 10 countries in sub-Saharan Africa,” the US Department of States tweeted.

As of October 14, the US Embassy and Consulate in Nigeria had revealed shipping a total of “over 7.5 million” doses to Nigeria.
This is aside providing $130 million fund to the federal Ministry of Health and Presidential Steering Committee on COVID-19.
With these donations and many more from other countries and international partners, the federal government is pushing for the vaccination of at least 50% of its eliglible population by January 31, 2022.
Meanwhile, the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA) revealed on Saturday that South East states are performing poorly with regards to covid-19 vaccination.
The NPHCDA listed Nasarawa, Ogun, Jigawa, Oyo ,Kwara as the top five performing states for this week.
“7,675,818 of total eligible persons targeted for COVID-19 vaccination reached with first dose while 3,921,318 of total eligible persons targeted for COVID-19 vaccination reached with second dose (fully vaccinated),” it added on its Facebook page.
