Covid-19: Nigerian Born Coordinator Of Pfizer Vaccine Says He Wants Pandemic To End

As the world is gearing up for massive purchase of covid-19 vaccines, Nigerian-born researcher, Onyema Ogbuagu, who also coordinates the Pfizer vaccine trials at Yale University, United States, believes that science is a veritable tool for ending the covid-19 pandemic.

Ogbuagu is an “Associate Professor of Medicine, in the clinician-educator track and Director of the HIV Clinical Trials program of the Yale AIDS Program, Section of Infectious Diseases of the Yale School of Medicine,” as published on the school’s website.

Pfizer Incorporated, in partnership with BioNTech had on November 10, announced that its vaccine candidate was found to be over 94% effective in preventing COVID-19.

This was after series of thorough evaluation by the independent Data Monitoring Committee (DMC) from the Phase 3 Clinical study to test its efficacy.

Ogbuagu, a leading member of the team of researchers who worked on the vaccine, stressed that his passion for scientific exploits is what guides his path as an Infectious disease expert.

“In response to the COVID pandemic, I am Yale principal investigator on multiple investigational therapeutic and preventative clinical trials for COVID-19 including remdesivir (now FDA approved), leronlimab and remdesivir and tocilizumab combination therapy as well as the Pfizer/BioNTech Vaccine trial,” he stated on Yale’s website.

Recall that the World Health Organization had noted that a vaccine, among other health measures, would see to the end of the Coronavirus pandemic that has killed over 1 million people globally.

The governor of Abia, Okezie Ikpeazu, is excited that an Indigene of the state is a shining example in the world of science.

“Dr Onyema Ogbuagu, the Abia-born Nigerian is one of the leading lights in the newly found globally celebrated @pfizer vaccine against COVID-19.

He is a Fellow of Yale School of Medicine, in addition to his Board certification as an Internal Medicine, Infectious Disease expert (2012).
