COVID-19: PDP Urges Prayers For Ikpeazu, Others, Commends Health Workers

Following news that Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State had tested positive for Coronavirus, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has asked Nigerians to pray for the speedy recovery of the governor and other compatriots who tested positive for the virus.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by Kola Ologbondiyan, the party said it was worried by reports of the increasing number of Nigerians who are infected by the disease.

However, it expressed the belief that “with the collaborative and concerted effort of all, our nation would soon overcome the pandemic.”

The statement reads “The party urged Nigerians not to despair over the situation but to remain at alert and redouble their efforts in adhering to health safety directives including social distancing, personal hygiene, early report of symptoms, wearing of face mask in the public among others, especially with the easing of the lockdown.

“The PDP called on governments at all levels to ensure more multisectoral and multi-layered responses to the pandemic, particularly in the areas of sensitization, monitoring, caregiving as well as therapeutic and non-therapeutic interventions to check the COVID-19 transmission and mortality rates in our country.

“Our party restates its commendation to our health workers and others on the frontline for their sacrifices at this trying time and urged Nigerians to reciprocate such gesture by keeping safe.”
