COVID-19: Strong Virus Immunity Seen In Patients With Mild Infections – Scientists

Studies Await Peer Review

According to studies, some scientists have discovered a strong immune response in Covid-19 patients with mild symptoms.

They stated that “disease-fighting antibodies, as well as immune cells called B cells and T cells capable of recognising the virus, appear to persist months after infections have resolved — an encouraging echo of the body’s robust immune response to other viruses,” New York Time reports.

In a report by an immunologist at the University of Washington, Marion Pepper, the immune system showed a strong reaction against viruses.

“This is exactly what you would hope for.

“All the pieces are there to have a totally protective immune response”, the scientist stated.

Another immunologist studying immune responses to Covid-19 at the University of California, Davis, Smita Iyer, also told New York Times that “this is very promising.”

“This calls for some optimism about herd immunity, and potentially a vaccine”, the researcher added.

New York Times reports that “although researchers cannot forecast how long these immune responses will last, many experts consider the data a welcome indication that the body has a good chance of fending off the coronavirus if exposed to it again.”

Another researcher at the University of Arizona, Deepta Bhattacharya, also stressed that “things are really working as they’re supposed to.”

Meanwhile, the above studies have not undergone peer review.
