Covid-19: U.S. To Donate $250m For ‘The Next Pandemic’ – Kamala Harris

While the world is yet to recover from the deadly covid-19 that had taken about 4,735,157 lives, the United States government is asking nations to get set for another pandemic.

The US Vice President, Kamala Harris, disclosed on Thursday that the country is gifting the World bank $250 million to aid countries prepare ahead of time.

“As we end this pandemic, we must get ready for the next. I am proud to announce our Administration is prepared to contribute $250 million to help jumpstart a new fund at the World Bank that will be dedicated to global pandemic preparedness,” she said in a live video via her official Twitter account.

She said that countries and corporations across the world will have to join the US in making preparatory plans, adding “it will take all of us to get this done.”

Her comments is coming amid the ongoing 76th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

The meeting is themed “Building resilience through hope – to recover from COVID-19, rebuild sustainably, respond to the needs of the planet, respect the rights of people and revitalize the United Nations.”

Countries like the US, China and others have made financial commitments towards curbing the spread of the covid-19 pandemic.

US president Joe Biden “announced we’re increasing our total vaccine donation to over 1.1 billion doses — more than every other country combined.”
