COVID-19: USAID Commissions Emergency Centre In Niger State

In a bid to fight the deadly Coronavirus in Niger State, the United States Ambassador to Nigeria,  Mary Beth Leonard, has commissioned an Emergency Operation and Communication Centre (EOC) in the state.

The virtual commissioning led by the United States Ambassador to Nigeria,  Mary Beth Leonard, was between the State Governor, Abubakar Sani Bello and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) representative.

The EOC is a partnership between the state government and USAID.

Governor Bello in an address,  explained that the state government recognized the scale and complexity of COVID –19 pandemic and the need to have state-of-the-art operational facilities aimed at fighting the deadly virus.

He noted that the rising cases of COVID-19 necessitated the establishment of the centre for the overall benefits of the citizenry.

The governor maintained that hitherto, a lot of resources had been mobilized to contain the spread of Coronavirus in the state, noting that even though cases were on the increase, the state government would continue to develop new strategies to meet up with the evolving situation.

The governor said, so far,  the state had recorded 59 cases of COVID-19 and 28 recoveries.

He appreciated USAID for the partnership in upgrading the PHEOC, and assured of further improvement on his response to COVID-19 pandemic so as to mitigate future outbreaks of diseases as well as enhance data collection for informed decision making.

Furthermore, he also pledged to continue to provide enabling environment for partnership that would impart meaningfully on the people of the state.
