COVID-19: Wealthiest Man In China Donates Medical Equipment To Africa

The co-founder of the Alibaba Group, Jack Mack , has announced additional donations of medical equipments to the African Union and the Africa Centre for Disease Control.
The equipment would be distributed to member states in the Continent for battle against the Coronavirus pandemic.

Ma, who disclosed this in a tweet on Monday, said he was doing his part to help the world become covid-19 free.

“Our 3rd donation to Africa will immediately be made to @_africanunion and @AfricaCDC. This includes 4.6m masks, 500k swabs & test kits, 300 ventilators, 200k clothing sets, 200k face shields, 2k thermal guns, 100 body temp. scanners and 500k pairs of gloves,” he tweeted.

This is apart from an earlier covid-19 donations made to Nigeria and other African countries on March 25( about 100,000 Masks; 9,999 Face Shield; 20,000 Test Kits and 1000 Personal Protective Equipment Groves).

His foundation had also made similar donations to Asian countries.

According to a People’s Daily report in China, Jack Ma, being a member of the CPC, was honored in 2018 for helping the Communist Party achieve some of its reforms in the country.

“Under his leadership, Alibaba ranks among the top 10 global companies in terms of market value, making China a leading player in the international e-commerce industry, internet finance and cloud computing, spawning a large number of entrepreneurs and start-ups,” the party’s jury office had said.

As of March 2020, Ma was ranked the wealthiest person in China, worth about 42.3 billion dollars, according to a Bloomberg report.

His company is involved in Chinese multinational technology specializing in e-commerce, retail, Internet, and technology.

But his company had said that its operations was not influenced by political consideration.

“Political affiliation of any executive does not influence the company’s business decision-making process,” a spokesperson said in an emailed,” Alibaba emailed Reuters, declining to comment on Jack’s party membership.

Jack Ma had also said that his philanthropic behavior was inspired by Bill Gates, an American Multi-billionaire.
