Crisis Rocks Enugu APC, State Chairman Suspended Over Embezzlement

Indications emerged Wednesday that the crisis rocking the All Progressives Congress in Enugu State is far from over as some party stakeholders majorly made up of candidates in the 2015 elections have reiterated that the suspension of the state chairman, Dr. Ben Nwoye, on July 3 for embezzlement and anti-party activities stand.

At a press briefing in Abuja on Wednesday, the group led by Hon. Ejike Njeze, insisted that Nwoye’s suspension of 3rd July followed all constitutional provisions of the party, and accused him of embezzlement of party funds, anti-party activities and highhandedness.

“Dr Ben Nwoye refused to attend to summons by a committee set up between the party and office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation to answer questions about the running of the party in Enugu state, with regards to embezzlement of party funds and anti-party activities. Instead he set up a panel in Enugu to try the petitioners, thereby assuming jurisdiction and becoming a judge in his own case. There is nowhere in the constitution of our party where petitioners are suspended,” Njeze said.

The APC stakeholders further alleged that Nwoye and some unnamed state officials were in “an unholy romance with the PDP in Enugu and state apparatus are made available to him to harass and intimidate party members with a view to disintegrating and plunge the party into crisis.”

According to Njeze, the state Police Commissioner has been aiding the illegality by providing security for the suspended chairman who allegedly invaded the party secretariat on July 4 and held an illegal meeting and proceeded to purportedly suspend some genuine members of the party.

The group demanded that as loyal party members who want the party to win elections, they have resolved to purge Enugu APC of compromised leadership and PDP moles within the party.

They called on all party members in the state to stay calm and focused and continue the hardwork of building the APC in the state, as it positions to take over government at all levels in the state by 2019.

They also appealed to the national leadership of the party to step up and deal with “this cankerworm in our great party.”
