Former Real Madrid manager, Fabio Capello has fingered Cristiano Ronaldo as the man responsible for his side’s slump in form this season.

According to the former England manager, Ronaldo’s ongoing fitness issues the main reason for the Madrid’s current dip in form recently, since after the Portuguese sustained a knee injury at the Euro 2016 Final in France.

Zinedine Zidane’s men have stuttered in La Liga, they are yet to record a victory since equaling Barcelona’s 16-game La Liga winning streak record with victory over Espanyol in September

With three consecutive draws, Los Blancos have now slipped to second behind city rival Atletico Madrid, with Ronaldo registering just a goal and an assist in those outings.

Speaking on Spanish radio station Onda Cero, the Italian manager said: “The problem for Real Madrid now is Cristiano Ronaldo.

“Because he is not well physically and is their best player, he does not have the same balance with his knee.

“I have seen him missing shots that he never misses, never. And he is their goal scorer and the most important player in the team.”

The striker has led his club with fantastic output in terms of goals and work rate over the past few seasons but has not made his usual impact so far this campaign.

Capello further reminded those calling for Zidane’s sack to remember he guided the team to a record 11 Champions League trophy in May.

“When you win trophies, well, and Zidane has won the Champions League, the most difficult to win for everyone,” he said. “So we must give him time. This is a difficult moment, and they are still top. That is the most important for a coach.”
