Croatia Defeat Denmark In Dramatic Shootout To Reach World Cup Quarterfinals

Danijel Subasic saved three penalty kicks as Croatia defeated Denmark 3-2 on penalties at Nizhny Novgorod Stadium to book a place in the quarter-finals of the 2018 World Cup.

Zlatko Dalic’s men will play host Russia – hocked 2010 champions Spain – on Saturday for a place in the semi-finals.

Denmark took the lead in the first minute as Jorgensen squeezed in from close range, but Croatia levelled just three minutes later from Mario Mandzukic’s fortuitous strike.

Croatia could have won the game in extra-time but Luka Modric’s penalty was saved by Kasper Schmeichel, to take the game into penalty shootouts.

Both keepers where on fine form saving five of the penalties before Ivan Rakitic struck the winning penalty.

Croatia and Russia meet at the Fisht Stadium in Sochi on Saturday .
