Dadiyata: Kwankwaso Challenges Security Agencies Over Missing Activist’s Whereabouts One Year After

Yesterday, August 1, 2020, made it exactly one year after Dadiyata, a staunch critic of Kano State Governor, Umar Ganduje, was reportedly kidnapped from his residence by unknown gunmen.

Dadiyata, real name Abubakar Idris, was said to be residing in the Barnawa area of Kaduna State until August 2, 2019, when he was kidnapped while arriving at his house at midnight.

There had been speculation that the Department of State Services (DSS) was responsible for the disappearance of Dadiyata, who until his kidnapping was a lecturer at the Federal University Dutsinma, Katsina State.

But following several calls for his release, both the DSS and the police had denied custody of the activist.

However, former Kano governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso, in a tweet on Saturday, challenged security agencies in the country to “unveil” his whereabouts.

Kwankwaso tweeted: “It’s sad that 365 days @dadiyata is still missing without a trace. The Nigerian security agencies have a responsibility to unveil the whereabouts of this young intellectual. Though we miss him dearly his daughter, wife, family & friends miss him even more. #OneYearWithOutDadiyata”

Dadiyata’s wife, Haneefa, had sued the DSS for N50 million over her husband’s disappearance and demanded his “unconditional release”.
