The management of Dana Air has announced operation of daily flights to Enugu from Abuja and Lagos. The chief operating officer of the company, Mr Obi Mbanuzuo, stated this, Monday evening, when he led Dana Air management on a courtesy visit to Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi at the Government House, Enugu

According to him, the decision to commence operations in the state was because Enugu ‘has shown to be one of the most peaceful states in Nigeria where the economy is growing, and Dana Air wants to contribute to the growth of the economy’. With this development, Dana Air now joins Air Peace and Ibom Air in daily flight operations in Enugu.

Meanwhile, the deputy minority leader of the House of Representatives, Mr Toby Okechukwu, has appealed to the federal government to reopen the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu, to international flight operations. The lawmaker, in a statement made available to THE WHISTLER in Enugu, stated that reopening the airport for international flights ahead of the Yuletide would enhance movement of Nigerians headed towards the Southeast region instead of travelling through connecting routes. He observed that multiple stopovers would expose people to more risks.

Okechukwu was reacting to the announcement by the director-general of the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority, NCAA, Capt Musa Nuhu, on the planned reopening of the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport, Kano, and the Port Harcourt International Airport to international flights. He argued that since aviation minister Hadi Sirika earlier said the Akanu Ibiam International Airport had been better equipped for international operations, it became imperative to reopen the airport after the FG invested N10bn in upgrading it.
