A Dana aircraft was on Friday forced to make emergency landing at the Murtala Muhammed airport, Lagos, after it lost one of its engines mid-air.

The Port Harcourt bound aircraft was said to have lost the engine due to a bird strike.

The airline made this known in a statement by its spokesperson, Kingsley Ezenwa.

Ezenwa disclosed that the company’s engineers were already checking the aircraft to ascertain the level of damage caused by the incident.

“On 21st of April, one of our aircraft with registration number 5N-SRI operating our 11am flight from Lagos to Port Harcourt, had an air return due bird strike during take-off from Lagos,” he said.

“Our captain took a professional decision and returned to the Lagos airport.

“As per standard safety procedure, which is the hallmark of our operation, our pilot returned to base.

“The aircraft is currently being evaluated by our engineers to determine the effect of the bird strike on the affected engine.”

THE WHISTLER recalls that the incident makes it the third in less than a week that flight schedules of separate airlines would be disrupted.

Air Peace was on Thursday forced to cancel its flight schedules after two of its aircraft collided at the Lagos airport.

Similarly, passengers aboard an Aero Contractors aircraft from Port Harcourt were earlier in the week left in panic after the plane started smoking barely 20 minutes after departure, forcing it to return.
