Dani Alves Snubs Man City, Joins PSG

Brazil full-back Dani Alves has joined Paris St-Germain on a free transfer from Juventus, the French giants reports.

The former Barcelona defender who was a transfer target for Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City this summer, will reportedly earn £230,000-a-week at PSG.

He was said to have agreed a deal with City, an offer of around £120,000 weekly, but decided to join the French side for nearly double the amount.

The deal was confirmed at a press conference in Paris on Wednesday.

“Believe me, I am coming to Paris to win,” said Alves, who is the 30th Brazilian to play for the Ligue 1 club.

“In recent years, I have been able to gauge the incredible growth of this club, which has become a European football powerhouse. It’s very exciting to now be part of this great project.

The Brazilian apologized to Guardiola and Manchester City, saying he chose PSG ahead of the Premier League because he “believes in happiness”.

“There was not only interest from Manchester City but from other English clubs.

“I have often said the Premier League intrigues me a lot and there is a very interesting project there, too. I did speak with City officials.

“But I have friends here [in Paris] and my wife loves this city. I was a little bit selfish when I went to Juve, I didn’t listen to my wife or friends. This time, I tried to be less selfish and to please everyone. I believe in happiness – that’s why I made the decision to come here. If Guardiola feels wronged, I apologise.”

Tottenham’s Kyle Walker remains City’s top target at right-back. The Citizens have so far failed to agree a fee with Spurs for the England defender, they are currently without a recognised right-back following the summer departures of out-of-contract duo Pablo Zabaleta and Bacary Sagna.
