Dasuki’s ‘Memory Loss’ Stalls Metuh’s Trial

The trial of Olisa Metuh was on Wednesday hampered as Col. Sambo Dasuki’s counsel told the court to grant his client time to refresh his memory.

Dasuki, a former National Security Adviser (NSA), had appeared in court to testify in the ongoing N400 million money laundering trial of Metuh who was the former National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

But Dasuki’s counsel, Ahmed Raji, urged the court to grant the ex-NSA access to his files to enable him refresh his memory, saying his client had spent close to two years in the custody of the Department of State Service (DSS).

Raji prayed the court to “tarry a while” to allow his client gain access and familiarise with “relevant files, records and documents required to refresh his memory of any decisions or actions he took or authorised in the course of his duties”.

Metuh’s counsel, Emeka Etiaba, agreed with Dasuki’s plea.

Recall that Justice Okon Abang had approved Metuh’s application which requested both Dasuki and ex-President Goodluck Jonathan to appear in court to testify to his innocence to the money laundering charges.

But in his response, Jonathan asked the court to set aside the subpoena issued against him or order the former PDP National Publicity Secretary to pay the sum of N1 Billion into his account to cover his security and travelling expenses from his hometown in Otuoke in Bayelsa State to Abuja.
