Dino Melaye Arraigned, Granted N100k Bail For ‘Framing’ Bello’s CoS

The Federal Government on Thursday arraigned Dino Melaye, senator representing Kogi West, before the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory in Abuja.

Melaye was arraigned on two counts of giving false information on Edward David, chief of staff of Yahaya Bello, governor of Kogi State.

The senator was said to have accused Edward of deliberately giving false information to the police to frame him as the mastermind of the alleged attempt to assassinate him.

The offences are said to be punishable under sections 140 and 393 of the Peal Code Law, Cap. 89, Laws of Northern Nigeria, 1963.

Melaye pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge filed against him by the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation.

He was subsequently granted bail in the sum of N100,000, after his lawyer, Mr. Rickey Tarfa (SAN), moved his bail application.

As part of the ruling, the senator is to bring one surety, who must be a federal civil servant of at least Grade Level 14 in any federal parastatal or establishment.

Ben Murray-Bruce, senator representing Bayelsa east, and Mao Ohuabunwa, senator representing Abia north, were among the lawmakers who accompanied Melaye to court.
