Dino Melaye Denies Promise To Give Out Cars In Celebration Of Atiku’s Victory At Tribunal

The Senator representing Kogi West senatorial district in the National Assembly, Dino Melaye, has distanced himself from an alleged promise to give out 10 cars in the event that Atiku Abubakar defeats President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal on Wednesday.

Senator Melaye denied making the promise while reacting to a tweet from a ‘fake’ twitter account.

The tweet came ahead of the tribunal’s expected delivery of a final verdict in the suit brought before it by the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Abubakar, who is challenging the victory of President Buhari in the February 23 presidential election.

The tweet from the fake account (@DinoMelaye_) reads: “During the elections, I said if Atiku won, I’d give out 100 cars.

“Today, the tribunal results will be announced. It doesn’t seem like a bad time to give out 10 Honda Pilot vehicles.Retweet and comment the color you would like. I will select randomly. #SDM”

But reacting, the Kogi federal lawmaker described the account as “fake”, while noting that “No promise from me to dash anything out.”

Meanwhile, the National Assembly/State Assembly Election Petitions Tribunal in Kogi had recently nullified the senatorial election of Melaye.

He had said in reaction: “On Tribunal judgement. No cause 4 alarm at all. Even if it went my way they will still go to the Appeal Court. Our mandate can not be taken. We will get judgment at the Appeal Court. There will be fresh election in Kogi West bc I will be Governor. For my Senate mandate no shaking.”
