Do Not Treat Coronavirus Patients At Home – Health Minister Warns

Minister of Health, Osagie Ehanire has said it is very risky for anyone to be treating Coronavirus patients in their private home.

Ehanire stated this on Monday at the ongoing Presidential Taskforce on COVID-19 briefing on Abuja.

Ehanire appealed to Nigerians to adhere to proven guidelines by health experts against the virus, adding that every sacrifice on the part of citizens will help in defeating the disease.

He also advised that non-essential travels should be postponed, saying that testing is not enough if positive persons are not isolated and treated.

The health minister further said if one is in a neighborhood where many people have tested positive, such a person is advised to go for testing.

According to the minister, the figure for confirmed cases will fluctuate.

He said “We are doing more testing

“On face mask: It does not have to be hospital grade masks or surgical masks. The purpose is to shield you and others.

“On mobility: For health workers who have to travel far away, the arrangement will be made by the hospital.”

On his part during the briefing, the Coordinator, Presidential Task Force on COVID-19, Sani Aliyu said privacy of those that have the disease should be respected.

“We should continue to respect the privacy of those that have been diagnosed of the disease.”

Aliyu also said “Testing is not recommended in the absence of symptoms because COVID-19 might not show during incubation time.”

Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Sadiya Farouq noted that food relief items have been sent out.

Speaking on his part, Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha said, there is keen interest to ensure that the curve of the disease is flattened

“There is keen interest to ensure we do everything possible to flatten the curve

Mustapha said the country has taken delivery of equipment from the United Nations.

“We have taken equipment from the United Nations, about five tonnes

“We are in a difficulty moment fighting an unseen enemy

“We are not expecting an upsurge of fatality,” the SGF assured.
