Drama As Audu Buried Amidst Tears

The burial of former All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate in the Kogi State Governorship poll, Prince Abubakar Audu brought former Heads of State, Gen. Ibrahim Babangida, Abdulasalami Abubakar, state governors, lawmakers and thousands of mourners on Monday to the state.

Audu died on Sunday over unknown illness after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), had declared the governorship election inconclusive.

The former governor was buried at 1:50pm at his palatial home in Ogbonicha after some drama.

The burial initially scheduled for 10am was shifted to 1pm when a ‘Man of God’ was brought in to ‘resurrect’ the deceased.

Our correspondent gathered that the cleric, Christian, was forced into where the corpse was lying by angry youths who nearly broke down the door but for the intervention of Senator Dino Melaye.

After several hours of prayers, while the grave diggers were still at their grave digging, it became obvious to the hopeful supporters and family members that Audu was not returning back to life.

With the failed attempt, Muslim clerics began the final prayer rites and the corpse was lowered down at 1:50pm to mark the end of an era for a man on the cusp of victory.

Besides IBB and Abdulsalami, former governors George Akume, Abdulkadir Kure, Lucky Igbinidion, Saminu Turaki and Rabiu Kwankwaso were in attendance as well as APC leaders.
