DSS Arrests Musician In Kano For ‘Insulting Allah’

A singer, Abdul Abdul, 35, has been arrested in Kano for releasing a song that was not vetted by the Kano State Film and Publishing Board.

The song was considered by the Board as insulting Allah (God) and therefore blasphemous.

The singer, who was arrested by the Department of State Service (DSS) has been detained to avoid violence and assault on him and his parents.

The DSS told BBC Hausa that the singer pleaded guilty after the Kano Film Board showed him the consequences of his actions.

Religious songs without the state government’s permission are banned in Kano.
