*Says Former Governor Unyielding To Investigations

The Department of State Security Service (DSS) has clarified its continued detention of former Benue State Governor, Gabriel Suswam, after it busted a large cache of hidden arms allegedly belonging to the ex-governor.

THE WHISTLER recalls that the DSS had stormed the Dunes Center in Maitama-Abuja, where it uncovered several weapons, property documents and other luxury items hidden at the basement of the luxury mall.

The Service had consequently kept the ex-governor in their custody as it was still investigating the matter.

However, a Federal High court in Abuja had, on Tuesday, directed that the security agency produce Suswam in court to enable it arraign the ex-governor alongside two others on a 32-count fraud and money laundering charge as filed by the Federal Government.

The Service further frowned at efforts being made by some “selfish” individuals who have taken it upon themselves to “create a deep sense of insecurity in parts of the country” over the continued detention of the former governor.

“The DSS wishes to reiterate its commitment to ensuring that peace prevails across the country and warns that it will not hesitate to bring the full weight of the law against defaulters, no matter how highly placed. The case of former Governor of Benue State, Gabriel SUSWAM, is typical,” the DSS Spokesman, Tony OPUIYO said in statement on Wednesday.

“The Service has continued to hold him in line with the dictates of the law – more so that he has not cooperated on the issues concerning the recovery of large cache of arms at his facilities. While investigation is ongoing on this matter, the Service has valid detention warrants to keep him. He will be charged accordingly, once the investigations are concluded.

“These successes have been achieved following the cooperation of well-meaning Nigerians who have volunteered credible intelligence. While such persons are commended and urged to do more for the good and safety of everyone, it is also important to advise people who are desirous of creating problems to desist from doing so. All law abiding citizens and residents are encouraged to go about their normal businesses without fear as the Service and the appropriate agencies of government will offer them the needed protection at all times,” he said.
