DSS Keeps Mum Over Alleged Detention Of Oshiomhole For Corrupt Behaviour

The Department of State Services (DSS) may have wanted its alleged grilling of the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Adams Oshiomhole, to be a top secret as efforts by THE WHISTLER to get its spokesperson to speak on the matter yielded little result.

Our correspondent, on Wednesday, reached out to the DSS spokesperson, Mr P.N. Afunanya, to react to reports that its operatives held Mr Oshiomhole for nine hours over allegations of bribery and corruption, but the spokesperson denied knowledge of the interrogation which reportedly took place on Sunday.

“I’m not aware of any interrogation of the APC Chairman by our officials,” Afunanya said in response to our inquiry.

Meanwhile, earlier reports have it that some governors had accused Oshiomhole of receiving bribes during the party’s primary elections that recently held across the country.

The reports said the former Edo State governor was detained and grilled by the DSS for nine hours and was asked to resign.

According to the reports, the APC Chairman however resisted the pressure to resign, saying he would only do so if he loses the confidence of President Muhammadu Buhari.

“Adams Oshiomhole was arrested by the DSS, they didn’t show him any petition. It was alleged by some governors that he collected bribe during the primaries,” TheCable had quoted an anonymous source as saying, adding that, “He was told to resign and he told DSS operatives that he will resign if he loses the confidence of the president. He said everything the party did, he (Buhari) was in the know.”

“On Monday night Oshiomhole met with the president and briefed him on what happened and the president was shocked. The president said he did not know about it and promised to look into it,” the source said.

Recall that the primary elections in some APC states to include In Zamfara, Imo and Ogun had experienced setbacks.

In Zamfara, the party did not successfully conclude its primary before the deadline, in Imo the APC chose Senator Hope Uzodimma over Uche Nwosu, son-in-law of Rochas Okorocha, while in Ogun state, Dapo Abiodun was chosen over Ibikunle Amosun’s candidate.
