DSS Lacks Credibility – Magu

The acting chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ibrahim Magu, on Wednesday, questioned the credibility of the Department of State Services DSS.

Magu, speaking shortly before his nomination as substantive chairman of the agency was rejected by the Nigeria Senate, accused the DSS of producing two conflicting indicting reports against him.

Senator representing Kogi West, Dino Melaye had read Paragraph 14 of the DSS letter on Magu which says “In the light of the foregoing, Magu has failed the integrity test and will eventually constitute a liability to the anti-corruption drive of the present administration.”

He therefore, asked Magu if he was certain that he is qualified to be the agency’s chairman following the indicting report.

“Do you still see yourself qualified as the Chairman of the EFCC or we’ve paid you to Golgotha?” Melaye asked.

But Magu, in his response, said that two reports were submitted in one day about him and that questions the integrity of the DSS as well.

“What does it mean if same institution can submit two different reports on one person on a single day,” he said.

He further revealed that the DSS never for once, invited him, to question or interrogate him on the allegation, adding that it was unfair for the organization to make conclusions without fair hearings.

Recall that on June 2016, President Muhammadu Buhari forwarded Magu’s name to the Senate for confirmation.

He was appointed in acting capacity on November 9, 2015, following the sack of his predecessor, Ibrahim Lamorde.

On December 15, 2016 the senate rejected his nomination after receiving a report by the DSS, which indicted him.

However, Buhari, on January 24, cleared and re-nominated Magu, a nomination that was again rejected by the Senate as the DSS for the second time, indicted him.
