Ebonyi Govt Dispels News Of Commissioner’s Resurrection

The Ebonyi State government has described as fake the news making the rounds that the state commissioner for Infrastructure, Engineer Fidelis Nweze, who died on June 21, had resurrected.

News of Nweze’s resurrection had circulated in the state on Thursday.

But the government in a statement by the special adviser to the governor on media and publicity, Mr Francis Nwaeze, dispelled the rumour and asked the people to stop spreading fake news.

He said: “People should stop spreading news that is not verified. It is inflicting more pain on those that are currently mourning.

“No picture evidence, no confirmation from the hospital or mortuary, why on earth should we engage in hearsay at this critical time? The state is still in a mourning mood.

“Though it is a very hard pill to swallow but we have to accept the reality before us.”

Recall that Governor Dave Umahi had on Wednesday 23 June 2021, announced a public holiday to mourn the Commissioner.

Umahi had described Mr Nweze as his younger brother, son and “indispensable pillar” of his administration since 2015.

He disclosed that he died on the morning of June 21 at the Turkish Hospital, Abuja.

He was said to be travelling to Enugu on Saturday, June 19, at about 7 p.m. with his orderly and driver when his vehicle rammed into a stationery articulated vehicle around Obinagu area of the state.
