Ebonyi, Imo Set To Reopen Schools

The Ebonyi State government says it will soon reopen her schools for academic activities after about four months of closure following the global coronavirus pandemic.

The state commissioner for education, Mr Onyebuchi Chima, stated this Thursday while briefing newsmen in Abakaliki. He said the reopening of schools would be preceded by some refresher courses for teachers on safety measures aimed at curbing the spread of the virus.

In his words, “Teachers will not immediately resume with school children as plans are underway to expand the ongoing radio and television learning and teaching programmes. The state government will further work with teachers, parents and communities to ensure that school premises are cleared of bushes, and fumigated before the official resumption of academic activities.”

Similarly, the Imo State government says it plans to reopen various schools in the state ahead of the forthcoming West African Examination Council’s examinations scheduled for August this year. The state commissioner for information and strategy, Chief Declan Emelumba, stated this while briefing correspondents in Owerri, the state capital. He said the state government would set out the criteria after meeting with parent-teacher associations of various schools on measures to observe the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control’s Covid-19 protocols to avert the spread of the virus.
