Abakaliki Local Government Area of Ebonyi State has made the National Identification Number a prerequisite for renting an apartment within the council.
The Chairman of the LGA, Mr Stephen Nwogha, disclosed this on Wednesday when he gave the accounts of his stewardship in the past two years.
According to him, the measure was aimed at curbing crimes and boosting security for the people. He assured that his administration was committed to fighting crimes to make the area safe for human activities.
Nwogha added that the council had been collaborating with various security agencies, including the police and the army, to reduce crime rates in the area.
He also spoke about the achievements of his administration in the sectors of health, education, agriculture, and socio-economic development.
According to him, “On health, during the outbreak of cholera in the council, we were able to contain it. We provided potable water for the people in the rural communities. We dug water boreholes and carried out a lot of campaigns against open defecation for the people.

“We also provided toilets in most public places, like markets, schools and communities within the council to ensure that our people do not defecate indiscriminately. We constructed roads and bridges and built lock-up shops for small and medium enterprises.”
On skills acquisition for the youth, the council chairman stated that his administration had trained about 1,000 youth in various skills to reduce the menace of unemployment.
Quoting him, “They were trained and were given starter packs. All these were aimed at reducing unemployment and decongesting the streets.”
He urged the people of the area to key into the policies of the federal, state, and local governments on job creation and become self-reliant.
