It would be recalled that the ECOWAS leaders had flown Mr. Barrow out of Banjul to Mali on Friday, after the incumbent president maintained his stand not to relinquish power to the president-elect until the country’s Supreme Court rules on his legal challenge of the December 1 presidential election.
The meeting, which had over 30 African leaders in attendance, including Mr. Barrow, also had President Muhammadu Buhari and Togolese President, Faure Gnassingbe, in attendance.
Radio France Internationale quoted President Gnassingbe as saying: “The choice of Gambian voters in favour of Adama Barrow must be respected.

Meanwhile, AFP reports that the UN refugee agency in Senegal confirmed that thousands of Gambians had crossed en mass to neighbouring countries for fear of possible military intervention in the country’s political deadlock.
