Edo Guber: Military To Deploy Drones In 18 LGAs

The Nigerian Military on Wednesday announced plans to deploy drones to monitor the upcoming Edo State gubernatorial elections.

The Army will deploy the devices to provide aerial surveillance in the 18 local government areas of Edo state, Brig-Gen Raji Benbela told newsmen in Benin.

“With the deployment of the drones, the Army will curb and expose hooliganism during the elections,” he said.

Raji noted however that the Army would deploy soldiers in key locations across the state to ensure orderliness during the electoral process slated to hold on 28 September, 2016.

“In addition, (the) governorship election is around the corner and the Nigerian Army, in its constitutional responsibility in support to civil authority, has ‎a duty to protect lives and property of citizens.

“This is what informed the decision to organise this exercise in collaboration with sister security agencies, with a view to giving the electorates the confidence to exercise their franchise,” Raji said.
