Edo Poll: Resignation Of Obaseki’s Aides Sign Of Gov’s Failure – Ize Iyamu

The candidate  of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the September governorship election in Edo State, Osagie Ize Iyamu, on Wednesday, mocked Governor Godwin Obaseki, over the resignation of some of his political appointees.

Obaseki is the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The Campaign Director of Obaseki/Shaibu Movement, who is also a member of the State Waste Management Board, Patrick Iyoha, resigned his appointment. He said his resignation was for personal reasons.

Also, two persons, including the Chairman of the State Post Primary Education Board, Gabriel Oiboh, and First member of the board, Osanyemwere Osawe, had also said resigned.

Earlier, three commissioners of the Edo State Oil and Gas Producing Area Development Commission had on Monday resigned their appointments.

The commissioners — Osamwonyi Atu, Emmanuel Odigie and Rilwanu Oshiomhole — represented Edo South, Edo Central and Edo North senatorial districts.

In a strongly worded post on his facebook page, Osagie said the resignation of the governor’s aides had clearly shown that he had failed.

He also added that since the governor could not pursuade his aides that worked for him for four years to support his re-election, “how then is he going to persuade the people of Edo State he promised security, jobs, and healthcare but failed to provide any?”

According to him “There is no stronger evidence of failure than the fact that the governor’s own aides and appointees, after four years of observing and working with him, are telling Edo people that he is not the right leader for the State.”

He also accused the governor of resorting to “brute force and intimidation to coerce people into remaining in his sinking ship. These actions are against the rule of law and represent a bad show of leadership.”

He further said “The L in the #POISIMPLEAGENDA stands for ‘Leadership By Example’. A responsible Governor, and the government he leads, must be able to inspire and set good examples by respecting the rights and freedom of others, embrace and demonstrate transparency and accountability, and display high moral values that others can learn from.
