EFCC Arraigns Native Doctor, Wife Over Alleged N2bn Scam

The Ilorin Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arraigned a native doctor, Olorunbukunmi Taiwo, and his wife, Awolegan Omolola Omotola, at the Federal High Court in Ado-Ekiti over an alleged contract scam worth over N1bn.

The couple was arraigned before Justice Abubakar Usman on a six-count charge of obtaining money by false pretence and retention of proceeds of crime.

The case stems from a petition by a Delta State widow and private school proprietor, Anazia Colina Kenechukwu, who alleged that Taiwo approached her to finance a road construction contract claimed to be awarded to him by the Delta State Oil Producing Area Development Commission (DESOPADEC).

According to Kenechukwu, he paid a total sum of N1.98bn into Taiwo’s Access Bank account.

The couple used the money to acquire two properties in Ado-Ekiti, including a lounge on Ikere Road and a four-bedroom bungalow in Irewolede Estate, according to the EFCC.
