EFCC Arrests Cyber Crime Suspect With 2,000 Bank Details, 12 ATM Cards

A suspected cyber criminal, Ihebuzo Chris, has been arrested by the Lagos zonal office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Chris was arrested recently in Edo State for alleged cyber stalking.

His arrest, according to the Spokesman of the anti-graft agency, Dele Oyewale, followed a petition received by the commission from a new generation bank.

Oyewale said the petitioner had alleged that Chris, in an online video, claimed to be in possession of some personal information and Biometric Verification Numbers of over 1,000 customers of the bank.

The petitioner noted that the suspect claimed to have obtained the numbers after hacking into the bank’s data base from his personal laptop computer.

The EFCC spokesman disclosed that items recovered from the suspect, at the point of arrest included the laptop computer, which he used to upload the said viral video, a printout of over 2,000 bank details, including the BVN of customers of the bank, 12 blank ATM cards “suspected to be for perpetration of his alleged criminal activity.”

He added that investigations were ongoing to unravel other culprits involved in the suspected crime.

“He would be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded,” he said.

Recall that the EFCC had on Thursday, disclosed that it had commenced investigations of the suspect arrested with over 2,800 ATM cards concealed in packs of noodles at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport in Lagos.

The suspect was arrested by the Nigeria Customs Service on his way to Dubai.
