EFCC Frees Mompha From Custody

Nearly two weeks after he was re-arrested, Internet celebrity, Ismaila Mustapha, popularly known as Mompha, has regained his freedom from the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Mompha was released on bail on Wednesday by the EFCC

He was re-arrested by the EFCC in Lagos on August 14.

Similarly, he had also dropped the N5m fundamental rights suit he filed against the anti-graft agency to challenge his re-arrest, according to his lawyer, Gboyega Oyewole.

The internet celebrity, alongside his company, Global Investment Limited, is standing trial, on an amended 22-count charge bordering on cyber fraud and money laundering to the tune of N33 billion

He had gone to the anti-graft agency office in Ikoyi, Lagos to reclaim some of his luxury belongings before he was re-arrested.

A Judge, Justice Mohammed Liman, had on July 24th, ruled and ordered the EFCC to release the items.

The items include five luxury wristwatches, an Apple iPod, an iPhone 8 device, and a pair of sunglasses, which were among other items found on him when he was arrested on October 19, 2019, in Abuja.
