Eid: ‘Calm At Al-aqsa Mosque’ As Israel, Hamas Continue Bombardment

On Thursday, Muslim faithful gathered at the popular Al-Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem to pray and mark the Eid al-Fitr celebration.

But rocket attacks continued between the Israel Defense Force and Hamas in Gaza.

“Moments ago, IDF jets and aircraft struck Hamas military intelligence offices in Gaza.

“Before the strike, we warned civilians in the building & allowed sufficient time for them to evacuate the site.

“We are continuing to strike terror targets in Gaza,” IDF tweeted on Thursday.

Videos floated online showed worshippers smiling and taking photos within the premises of the mosque.

A spokesperson to Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Ofir Gendelman, confirmed the peaceful atmosphere while sending regards to the worshippers.

“Ambiance In Jerusalem…I extend my best congratulations to the Muslim citizens of the State of Israel and my congratulations on the occasion.. We hope that calm, stability and security will prevail in the country soon and every year…,” he tweeted.

Recall that on Monday, Palestine worshippers and Israel security operatives clashed at the said mosque as well as around the Temple Mount in Jerusalem.

The Mount situated at Jerusalem has a historic significance to Judaism, Christianity and Islam.

The Israeli government had accused some of the Palestinians of plotting to cause trouble in Jerusalem.

People were seen throwing objects at the Israeli security men, who also fired tear gas at them, among other things.

The clash had since escalated to massive attacks of over 1,000 rockets between the IDF and Hamas Military group in Gaza strip, Palestine.

As of the time of this report, over 50 persons have been killed on both sides while more than 700 people, including children have sustained injuries.

The United Nations had called for calm among the parties.

As for the Israeli and Palestinian governments, they both claim that Jerusalem is their capital.
