Ekiti APC Guber Aspirants Reject Al-Makura Committee, Demand Fresh Primary

 

The governorship aspirants of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti state have rejected the committee chaired by Nasarawa State governor, Tanko Al-Makura.

The decision was taken on Sunday at a stakeholders’ meeting in Ado Ekiti, capital of Ekiti state.

The leadership of the party had delegated Tanko Al-Makura, to chair the committee which organised Saturday’s primary.

The aspirants, also demanded a fresh primary election be conducted after violence marred Saturday’s election, which ended inconclusively.

The aspirants met at Midas Hotel in the state capital to find a way forward ahead of the May 14 deadline for submission of the party’s candidate to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Meanwhile, Kayode Fayemi, minister of mines and steel development, and Opeyemi Bamidele, a former commissioner of information in Lagos state, are the among the aspirants absent at a stakeholders’ meeting.

Fayemi had alleged that some desperate elements, including Babafemi Ojudu and Bimbo Daramola, two other aspirants, conspired to thwart the exercise because he was leading.
Thirty-three aspirants partook in the primary which was marred by violence.
