El-Rufai Threatens U.S, UK, EU Over 2019 Elections, Asks Them To Stay Away Or…

Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State has told foreign nations monitoring developments towards a peaceful conduct of the upcoming elections in Nigeria to steer clear the country or risk returning to their countries as corpses.

Governor El-Rufai threatened that foreigners who come to meddle in Nigeria’s February 16 presidential election “will go back in body bags” as they have no business interfering in how the Nigerian Government conduct its affairs.

The Governor stated this on Tuesday night while appearing as guest on a programme on the National Television Authority (NTA).

”Those that are calling for anyone to come and intervene in Nigeria, we are waiting for the person that will come and intervene. They will go back in body bags because nobody will come to Nigeria and tell us how to run our country,” said El-Rufai.

Meanwhile, the Governor’s threat of attack on foreigners is coming less than 48 hours after the United States of America said it expects nothing short of free, fair and transparent elections from the Nigerian authorities.

In a video broadcast by its Ambassador to Nigeria, Stuart Symington, the U.S said: “The elections are a remarkable opportunity for all Nigerians to come together and for every citizen to express their will. What the United States hopes to see in your elections in this year 2019 are elections that are free, fair, credible and above all transparent. In this process, I know one thing: it is absolutely important for the citizens of Nigeria to personally take part, beginning right now by knowing what your rights are. On election day, you won’t have an effect unless you vote. It’s important that you work together to make sure that your votes are counted.”

El-Rufai’s remark also follows the recent statements made by the U.S, UK, and the EU on the suspension of the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Walter Onnoghen. They expressed concern that President Buhari’s suspension of the CJN may negatively impact the credibility of general elections.
