‘El-Rufai Wants To Demolish My Personal House Again,’ Kaduna Senator Cries Out

The Kaduna North Senator whose house was allegedly demolished by Governor Nasir El-rufai has raised the alarm over threats by the governor to bulldoze another of his building.

Senator Hunkuyi Suleiman took to Facebook late Wednesday to share documents of ground rent sent to him to pay the sum of N30 million to the state government or have his personal residence demolished within 30 days.

The WHISTLER recalls that one of Suleiman’s buildings, which previously served as the secretariat of the factional All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, was demolished on Tuesday after the faction reportedly suspended Governor El-Rufai for six months.

The Senator had claimed that “…the Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai personally drove a bulldozer accompanied by armoured tanks to destroy my house at 11B Sambo Road. This is a new low and fighting dirty with such low level of pettiness is indeed unprecedented in Kaduna State.”

Speaking, however, on El-Rufai’s alleged threat to demolish another of his property in the state, Suleiman wrote:

“Once again, Governor of Kaduna Malam Nasir El-Rufai has sent a ridiculous bill to me for a purported ground rent of my personal house at Inuwa Wada to the tune of N30Million to be paid within 30 days, failure to do so might probably result to another demolition like he did on my other property

“As of last year 2017, i’ve paid my dues to Kaduna State Internal Revenue Service & they’ve duly issued me receipts to that effect. This letter today demanding for N30Million within 30days is draconian & indeed blatant display of abuse of power as arrogantly portrayed by El-Rufai,” he wrote.

Meanwhile, in addressing the Senator’s earlier allegation, the Kaduna Geographic Information Service (KADGIS) had claimed that Suleiman’s property located on 11B Sambo Road in the state was demolished because it formed as a shelter for thugs.

KADGIS had said the “building on 11B Sambo close was removed for flagrant violations of land use and non-payment of ground rent since 2010. This illegal violation of use had begun to distress neighbours who were being forced to endure an influx of thugs and blockage of the road.”
