Emmanuel Osodeke Elected New ASUU President

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has elected Emmanuel Osodeke as its new president following the end of Biodun Ogunyemi’s tenure as the union’s head on Friday. 

Prof Osodeke, of the Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, was elected on Sunday during the union’s national delegates conference in Awka, Anambra state.

Chris Piwuna, a Consultant Psychiatrist and Associate Professor in the College of Medicine, University of Jos, was elected Vice President.

Other elected officials are Prof. Siji Sowande for Treasurer, Prof. Ade Adejumo for Financial Secretary, Dr. Austen Sado for Investment Secretary, Dr. Adamu Babayo for Internal Auditor, and Dr. Stella-Maris Okey for Welfare Secretary.

Prof Osedeke succeeds Prof Biodun Ogunyemi under whose tenure ASUU embarked on a 9-month strike last year over a number of unfulfilled agreements entered into with the Federal Government.
