EndSARS Is ‘Judgment On The Political Class’ – Lam-Adesina

A former member of the House of Representatives, Mr Dapo Lam- Adesina has described the #EndSARS protests across the country as the Peoples rebellion against the political class, warning that it must not be allowed to get out of hand.

The former lawmaker said the sustained protest was a result of pent-up anger and it was a way through which the youth are demanding better life from the government.

The former member of the National Assembly, who said this in a statement on Wednesday, stated that the police would also benefit from the protest because the agitators were seeking better remuneration for them.

He advised that police should stop attacking the protesters while calling on the #EndSARS protesters to also stop attacking policemen.

He said the renewed protest was a signal that many Nigerians had been pushed to the wall and were using the opportunity to demand accountability from those they elected.

The statement read, “The ongoing protest is not only about the brutality of citizens by those who are paid to protect them but it is obvious that the people have been pushed to the wall and are demanding accountability from those they elected.

“This can be said to be a judgement on the political class which I am also a part of (truth be said).

“I appeal to the present crop of leaders to wake up to the call by the citizens and look at the plight of the people while also showing empathy to the economic challenges the people are facing at this critical time.

“The #EndSARS is not a fight against the police because even the officers of the Nigeria Police will benefit from one of the demands (salary increase).

“Hence police officers should not kill those asking for things they will benefit from as well. Citizens should also please not harm police officers too as they are also part of us.

“A government will always try its best as the present one is doing but the people are saying they want more. It is a call to leaders to sit up and save the ailing nation.”

Lam-Adesina said the protest must not be seen as targeting a particular ethnic group or religious organisation.

He also advised the government to handle the protests in a mature way and should not allow it to get out of hand because doing so could be dangerous for the nation.

“The government must never allow this present uproar to get out of hand as it would obviously not be the best for our dear nation.

“This should not be about political, ethnic, or religious affiliation/belief but at this point, we must all stand up for our future and that our dear nation.

“And I must also say that the protest must be peaceful as government properties are owned by the people, it is the people’s money that was used to put them in place and the same people’s money that will be used to put them back in place when destroyed. It is our money, don’t destroy your properties, please,” he added.
