#EndSARS: Nigerian Businessman Suing Twitter For Backing Protest Fails To Appear In Court

A Nigerian businessman, Adamu Garba, was absent at a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja today, Wednesday, after suing Twitter’s CEO, Jack Dorsey, for allegedly sponsoring the violent turnout associated with the EndSARS protests.

A lawyer familiar with the development, Tope Akinyode, confirmed this in a tweet.

According to him, the court had to adjourn until 22 April, for continuation of the case.

“BREAKING: I was at the Federal High Court today to defend Adamu Garba’a lawsuit against @jack and @Twitter.

“However, @adamugarba & his lawyers failed to show up in Court without given reasons & the Court has now adjourned case to 22nd April, 2021,” he stated.

Garba had on October 20 sought for an order compelling Twitter to pay the “sum of $1bn in compensation for all the damages” associated with the EndSARS campaign.

Dorsey, alongside others, had backed the protests which called for an end to police brutality.

The EndSARS protests was a nationwide criticism of alleged human right violations by some operatives of the Nigerian Police Force.

As a result, various state governors established panels of inquiry to probe cases of abuse.

But the Socio-economic Rights and Accountability (SERAP) had urged the federal government to allow the United Nations to investigate the matter, for the sake of transparency.
