#EndSARS: Obasanjo Told Buhari ‘Bitter Truth’ That Thugs Were Sponsored To Attack Peaceful Protesters – Fani-Kayode

Former aviation minister, Femi Fani-Kayode, has claimed that former president Olusegun Obasanjo told President Muhammadu Buhari the ‘bitter truth’ about the recent #EndSARS protests during a virtual meeting on Friday.

Buhari had met with past heads of states and presidents following the recent violence recorded in parts of the country over the two-week-long #EndSARS protests.

While presidential aide, Femi Adesina, said Obasanjo had commended Buhari for the national broadcast he delivered on the protests, Fani-Kayode claimed that the former president countered Buhari over his claim that the protesters resorted to violence.

“Glad that OBJ told Buhari the bitter truth at their meeting after he claimed that the protests were turning violent. OBJ countered by telling him that the protests were peaceful until sponsored and violent thugs and hoodlums turned on the protesters and started attacking them,” said Fani-Kayode, who was special assistant on public affairs to Obasanjo from 2003 to 2006.

But in a statement he issued after the meeting on Friday, Adesina said Obasanjo told Buhari that he made points that were commendable.

Adesina quoted Obasanjo as saying, “I commend the speech of last night. The nation had been waiting. You made points that I believe need to be commended. Peaceful demonstration is part of democratic practice. The demands of the genuine protesters were accepted, and you are working on implementation. We commend you.”
