#EndSARS Organiser To Sue CBN After Withdrawal Of Case Against Protesters

Rinu (Bolatito RachealI) Oduala, one of the organisers of the #EndSARS protests, has announced plans to sue the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) for what she called “unlawful freeze” of her account by the apex bank.

Oduala was among the 20 Nigerians whose accounts were frozen by the CBN for partaking in a series of mass protests that rocked the country in October, 2020, against police brutality.

The CBN had secured an order from an FCT Federal High Court to freeze the protesters’ accounts for three months on the grounds that it wanted to investigate the protesters for money laundering and terrorism crimes.

On expiration of the order, the CBN approached the court on Wednesday to withdraw its suit against the protesters.

But Oduala, who claimed that the CBN unlawfully froze her account, said she had informed her lawyers to commence a legal process against the apex bank.

“It’s time to sue CBN for the unlawful freeze of my accounts. I was accused of money laundering & terrorism but no investigations were done in the past 3 months. This was purely an act of intimidation! I have informed my lawyers, Falana and Falana Chambers & we will be suing!” she said hours after the court ordered CBN to unfreeze the #EndSARS protesters’ accounts.

The #EndSARS protesters whose accounts were frozen are: Bolatito Racheal Oduala, Chima David Ibebunjoh, Mary Doose Kpengwa, Gatefield Nigeria Limited, Saadat Temitope Bibi, Bassey Victor Israel, Wisdom Busaosowo Obi, Nicholas Ikhalea Osazele, Ebere Idibie, Akintomide Lanre Yusuf, Uhuo Ezenwanyi Promise, Mosopefoluwa Odeseye and Adegoke Pamilerin Emmanuel.
