Motorists at the Lekki axis of Lagos were bogged down by gridlock on Monday morning as protesters continued with the #EndSARS protest despite the dissolution of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad of the Nigeria Police Force on Sunday.

The protesters, who were armed with placards and banners, stormed the Lekki Toll Gate section of the Lekki-Epe Expressway, Lagos State and blocked it.

This led to traffic gridlock as motorists and commuters got stuck on the road for hours.

The protesters said the dissolution of the SARS was not enough to end brutality, harassment, extortion and killing of innocent citizens by the police

The protesters on Monday said the police authorities should carry out psychological evaluation and re-training of all disbanded SARS officers before they are redeployed.

They said the wicked acts would continue if the disbanded personnel were not evaluated psychologically before their redeployment to other units within the police force.

They are also seeking compensation for their families to help cushion the effect of the pains inflicted on the families.

The protesters also want increased salaries for police officers as well as the establishment of an independent body to oversee the investigation and prosecution of all reports of police misconduct within 10 days.
