Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has said the State will suffer huge economic setback from the current destruction of properties in the State arising from the #EndSARS protest.

The governor said this during a monitored interview on Arise TV News on Thursday.

Hit by the Covid-19 pandemic, Lagos had cut its 2020 budget by 21 per cent to N920.5bn, owing to low revenues.

The initial budget approved for the State was N1.17trn.

Sanwo-Olu said, “Over the next two days, people will have the opportunity to go round and be able to do a proper inventory of what losses we have in the State.

“I imagine it to be huge coming out of a Covid infected budget where the State had to reduce the total budget of 2020 by over 22 per cent. We are just coming out from a slow economic recovery.”

The Lagos State governor said the State had planned taking its 2021 budget to the House of Assembly before the heated protest.

The Governor said this would have enabled the government to take the State to the next level post-Covid.

He added, “With this incident, there will be a bit set back, but I believe that we will come out stronger and bigger and resilient as State.”

The Governor further called on aggrieved protesters to stop any kind of arson that can lead to loss of life and properties.
