Members of the #RevolutionNow movement have stormed the Nigeria Police Headquarters located at Louis Edet House, Abuja, to demand disbandment of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad of the Force.
The protesters were led by convener of the #RevolutionNow movement, Omoyele Sowore.
The demonstration came despite the directive by the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, that FSARS and other tactical squads of the Force should withdraw from routine patrols, stop-and-search, checkpoints, mounting of roadblocks and traffic checks, among others.
The ban followed social media outrage against alleged extortion, brutality and rights abuses by SARS operatives.
IGP Adamu had in a statement by the Force PRO, Frank Mba, said the ban affected the Intelligence Response Team, Anti-Cultism Squad and other Tactical Squads operating at all federal, zonal and command levels across the country.
