EndSARS: ‘We Spent More Than 5 Hours… In This Mess, ‘ Motorists Groan As Protesters Shutdown Lagos-Ibadan Expressway

Motorists and commuters are experiencing hell as they are stuck in the traffic gridlock caused by EndSARs protesters on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

Some motorists who spoke with our correspondent on the telephone said the gridlock was caused by the protesters who shut down the expressway at around Arepo.

Some residents said the protesters came as early as 7am and barricaded the road which is said to be the busiest in the country.

One of the passengers caught in the gridlock, Michael Adeyemi, said he left Ibadan by 7am but had not got to Arepo at about 1pm.

Adeyemi said, ” I left Ibadan by 6:45am and the journey was smooth until I got to somewhere after Redemption Camp around 8:15am. Five hours after, I have not got to Lagos. In fact I am at Ibafo. I don’t know when I will get out of the mess.”

Another motorist , Wale Adedeji, told our correspondent that he was forced to turn back and had to go to Sagamu from there to Abeokuta and to Lagos .

He said, I just got to Lagos now. I was told shortly around Sagamu Interchange that the road and been blocked at Arepo. I had to turn back and go through Abeokuta. I am just about to enter Lagos now. That is even better because I heard that the
protesters have not cleared the barricade till now.”

Our correspondent gathered that some commuters had to alight from vehicles and boarded motorcycles from Ibafo to Berger end of the Lagos -Ibadan Expressway

Okada riders are said to be using the opportunity to charge exorbitant fares .

Some younger persons are also said to be alighting from vehicles and trekking from Ibafo to Lagos
