Enugu 90-Year-Old Pastor Urges Christians To Help ‘Citizens In The North’

Ninety-year-old founder of the Christ Ascension Church, Worldwide, His Grace Apostle Godwin Ogbonnaya Nwoye, yesterday, provided palliatives to scores of widows in Enugu with a call on Christians to extend love to people of Northeast to cushion their sufferings as a result of insecurity in that region.

Apostle Nwoye, who used the event to commemorate his 90th birthday, said, “I urge every Christian to give more, especially to our fellow citizens in the North due to the added hardship caused by insecurity. We have a responsibility as Christians to care and assist those in need through the love of Jesus Christ. Love is charity and charity is a Godly responsibility we must express towards the poor, the needy and widows. Every month and running into decades, I generously share financial support and essential goods to support the poor and the marginalized.”

The spiritual leader also stressed the need for the education of the child as a permanent cure for ignorance. He recalled that, “One day, in 1941, at nine years old, unknown to my parents, I summoned courage, not minding my look and dress; I kept pace with other kids as they headed for school. I later pleaded with the teacher to allow me to sit in class with other kids. My family and the community then went on to tax themselves to raise money to fund my education with other children my age. Unfortunately, the community funding did not last, but the deep desire to learn was fired up the more.”

One of the beneficiaries, Madam Ebere Agbo, commended Apostle Nwoye for his philanthropy, praying God to reward him hundred folds. She said, “Remembering widows and the needy at this hard time, especially under the hardship occasioned by Covid-19, is commendable. Apostle Nwoye has proved to us that he is a true servant of God, and a passionate preacher of the gospel of Jesus Christ to the poor.”

Items donated to the widows included bags of rice, beans, Indomie, clothes, and oil soap.
