“There is nothing too small in helping mankind and that is why charity should be part of our daily life. I advise the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the tools.

“Today you have been empowered to start your own ventures. Be serious with your work because you will also train others. This gesture is not that there is money, but out of selflessness to put smiles on your faces. It is one of the ways to thank God for His goodness.

“While I commend Mrs Edeoga for this, I plead that this scheme also embarks on follow-up supervision exercises to know the challenges they may face in running their businesses. By so doing, they will become firm and contribute to the economic development of our state.”

In her response, the founder of the project, Mrs Roseline Edeoga, commended Mrs Ugwuanyi for being the flagship of helping the needy in the state.

She said, “Following your zeal and concern to put smiles on the faces of the less privileged in our state and in line with your directives on how to improve the lives of the poor and the needy in the grass roots, I embarked on this empowerment programme to assist the indigent youths in all the eleven wards of Isi-Uzo LGA and educate them on the dangers of drug abuse, teenage pregnancy, and indolence.

“The selection was done through balloting and the successful ones made their own choices of trade to learn, ranging from tailoring, hairdressing, welding, computer training, tiling, plumbing, shoemaking, alumaco construction, automobile repairs, electrical installations and wiring while three others were given scholarships.”

She said eleven out of the fifty beneficiaries absconded from the course. The highlights of the event are the presentation of start-off tools and certificates to the beneficiaries. The tools include tailoring machines, dryers, plumbing equipment, tiling tools, automobile repair instruments, among others.

Dignitaries at the event include the Enugu state commissioner for local government matters, Hon Chijioke Edeoga; the state’s PDP chairman, Chief Augustine Nnamani, and the Isi-Uzo LGA transition committee chairman, Hon Benjamin Edeoga.
