Enugu Rangers International striker Ifeanyi George Sunday morning lost his life in a fatal motor accident.

THE WHISTLER gathered that the superstar died on his way to Lagos following the break announced by Nigeria’s league management team on league tournaments as a measure to curtail the spread of Covid-19.

The player was said to have died while driving in his own car in company with two of his teammates en route to Lagos.

The management of Enugu Rangers, through the team manager, Davidson Owumi, had Friday directed players of the club to go on vacation.

The club have also confirmed the death of Ifeanyi, 26, in their Twitter handle.

According to the handle, “We lost Ifeanyi George this morning. The club will soon come up with a statement. Ifeanyi George died this morning on his way to Lagos while driving from Enugu.

“The accident occurred in Abudu just after Agbor in Delta State. He had been injured for the past three weeks with a severe waist pain and was told not to drive even in Enugu.”

Ifeanyi’s death comes after two others deaths within a month involving players of the NPFL.

Remo Stars Tiamiyu Kazeem died exactly one month ago when he was alleged to have been pushed down from his car by an operative of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad of the Nigeria Police, and was subsequently hit by an oncoming vehicle.

Also, Nasarawa United defender Chieme Martins died two weeks ago in Lafia during an NPFL game between his club Nasarawa United and Katsina United.

A fan of the late Ifeanyi George, Kevin Madu, told our correspondent that the football fraternity had lost another promising talent. “Ifeanyi George is a superstar. His death came to us as a rude shock.

It’s just among the impacts of this coronvirus, otherwise he wouldn’t have died. But God knows the best.”
