Enugu Rerun: INEC Suspends Election In Enugu South

The Independent National Electoral Commission, Saturday, suspended rerun elections in all the eight polling units of Enugu South State Constituency following the non-availability of the original results sheets for inspection by voters and party agents before the commencement of the polls.

This was contained in a statement by the INEC National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, Mr Sam Olumaku.

Meanwhile, the voter turnout in Udenu Local Government Area has generally been very low. There were also alleged skirmishes in some communities in the LGA. Udenu is part of the Igboeze North/Udenu Federal Constituency where the Court of Appeal nullified and ordered rerun in 166 polling units where results sheets did not contain the logo of the All Progressives Congress.

The traditional ruler of Amalla Egazi Community, His Highness, Igwe Patrick Eze, expressed sadness over the development.

He said in every election, “there must be a winner and a loser”, but wondered why some mischief-makers would want to cause problems in the community.

He advised members of the community to shun violence and pursue peace for the development of the society.

His advice followed some commotion at two pulling booths in his community, making INEC officials and voters abandon the area after armed policemen shot sparodically.

THE WHISTLER gathered that out of the three polling booths in Amalla, ballot papers were snatched in Eke market Square Amalla 023 and Ete Umuagale 010 pulling boots.
