Enugu: Tourism Gets A Boost As Nike Lake Resort Returns To Glory

The Nike Lake Resort, Enugu, is currently positioned to be the pride of tourism in the Southeast, according to its chairman, Board of Directors, Dame Barr Ugochi Madueke.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with THE WHISTLER on Tuesday, Dame Madueke said everything about the resort had been given a facelift. According to her, “Nike Lake Resort is the most prestigious resort in the Southeast in terms of accommodation, landscaping and serenity. Our lake has crocodiles. We also have ample parking spaces. Our rooms are spacious. Our dishes are unique. Our Omenala concept is a brand. It is where local delicacies such as Ugba, abacha, achicha, nkwobi, isi ewu, azu, point-and-kill, and palm wine are prepared and served hot and spicy. Omenala can be called the lakeview outlet. Our palm wine is fresh from our trees here. Our mission is to promote timely and quality services while adopting the industrial best practices that create pleasurable experiences.”

She said since the board was inaugurated on March 10, 2020, with a mandate by Gov Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi to bring back the lost glory of Nike Lake, there had been massive uplift of the resort. In her words, “Now we have a unique signage, which is about 70% completed. We just installed our CCTV, which wasn’t here in the past 35 years. The entrance now has granites instead of slabs. We have also purchased a walk-through scanner at the entrance. Coming into the hotel now, it’s a total change in the entire 44 rooms. We have changed from the bathtubs to cubicles. We have removed rugs; now we have tiles in the 44 rooms.”

She added that with the resort’s three new boreholes, it would soon launch its branded table water. In her words, “We built a sand filtration tank. We have also built the fish pond. We also have a brand new kitchen, new burners, new ice-cube making machine, new ice-cream making machine, and new oven.”

On workers’ welfare, Dame Madueke said, “We did personnel audit, and realised that many people who were due for retirement, and for whatever reasons, were still working. We had to lay some people off, and employed younger, energetic professionals. This place was almost moribund before Gov Ugwuanyi came. He recently increased staff salaries. He bought two brand new generators, one 500Kva and 600Kva.”

Our correspondent reports that Nike Lake Resort was built by former governor of old Anambra State, Jim Nwobodo.
